As of today I join the legion of college-aged girls living and blogging in New York City. There is one thing, however, that sets me apart. My life is split between the city and the country. Born and raised in Nebraska, I currently attend university in the city. As a part of the floating generation, I know I could easily fall into the path of my peers: over-educated and under-employed. This blog will therefore serve as my quest to understand what path I am supposed to take in life.
I first heard the term "floating generation" in this article about Lena Dunham of HBO's GIRLS. It really is a term I identify with; going to a school where I could literally do anything is setting me up for failure as soon as I graduate. I'll either enter the world with a relatively useless degree or I'll head off to grad school to make it a little more useful, only to find that I've suddenly become overqualified for the work I can get. And the work I went to school for? Well all that time I spent studying, my competitors spent putting in the hours in offices.
But since I already mentioned GIRLS, here is a little more to encourage some love for the show. Season 2 Production Diary
