Fall in New York

I know back in Nebraska it's bee chilly for a little while, but it's just starting to really feel like fall here, and I'm soaking it up.  There is something so beautiful about the juxtapositioning of the city and the changing seasons.  Seeing the trees begin to change color in front of the skyline is a reminder that the city isn't a bubble.  The world keeps going and the seasons keep changing, even in a place that has tried to trample nature down.

It gets cold here, the leaves fall, and the pace of the city changes.  To many New Yorkers, this is the season of pumpkin spiced everything, seasonal foods at Trader Joe's, apple cider donuts at the greenmarket, and the season for sweaters and boots.  There are a lot of people of out touch with nature in this city, and I don't mean that not enough people take yoga and participate in all of the spiritual fads.  It's just that the seasons are wrapped up in so much more for people here than the weather changing or the plant life preparing for the cold.  But I suppose that's okay.  Not everyone can go to central park and admire the leaves, and not everyone is lucky enough to come from a place like Nebraska, where the change of seasons changes the very air you breathe.  I'm so lucky to have lived in both Nebraska and New York.  I would never be able to appreciate one with out the other.  But not matter where I am, fall will always be the most magical time of year for me.

Meet The Author

I'm Madysen, born and raised in Nebraska but now living out my dreams in New York City. I moved here to go to Columbia, but living in New York has become so much more to me. This blog is a space where I can share my experiences of reconciling my midwestern upbringing with the life I live in the city. But even bigger than that, this blog serves as a space where I can try to understand where I fit into the larger social world, where I want to go in life, and how I want to go about pursuing all of these endeavors.
